Using TrackStar

I created a TrackStar on the topic of secure email systems. It's a topic that's somewhat of a cross between medical and business emerging technologies. Most people are not aware of the necessity for medical facilities to set up special elaborate email systems that have a special level of security to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. As more doctors and hospitals utilize email systems for various communications to parents, the need for security is apparent and more people will experience the process required. Instead of an email coming directly to a patient's inbox, they will receive a notification that an email communication is waiting for them on a secure server and they will be provided information to login and retrieve the data. Review my TrackStar here: http://trackstar.4teachers.org/trackstar/ts/viewTrack.do?number=322418

I found the TrackStar system very easy to use and useful in it's layout and presentation. It had been some time since I'd been to the ALTEC site and it's laid out and formatted in a much better and easier to use manner. I love the improvements and am encouraged that they put the effort into updating this great resource. I attempt to teach educators to use a variety of software solutions for putting links and information on the web and many of them are not that easy to use and require quite a lot of background information. The tools that are now available, like Trackstar, make it so much easier for teachers. The process of creating a "track" and organizing your links and providing text that describes why the link is included is a useful layout for teachers. Many of our schools/teachers use bookmarking programs but they don't usually provide the same kind of project layout. I think this is much more useful for most projects.

The only critique of TrackStar is that it wasn't easy to save my work. I like to save often and it wouldn't let me save until I had at least two links entered and then when I would do the save, I had to circle around and into an edit process - it worked ok but was a bit cumbersome and I think some teachers would get confused by that process. Overall, the tool is great and I'll recommend it highly to our teachers. I'm anxious to get back into ALTEC and work with some of the other tools that I haven't seen in a while and see how they've improved them.
